Horse Tragically Killed by Dogs Running at Large
On Friday, January 27, 2023, around midday, Officers from the Winnemucca Police Department received a call for service regarding a deceased horse. A local woman had gone to feed her horse in the area of South Highland Drive and found it deceased from what appeared to be an altercation with dogs.

Officers were quickly able to determine the two dogs who had been involved as their owner had reported them missing earlier in the day and another citizen had reported seeing them running down another street covered in blood. The owner of the two dogs cooperated fully with the investigation and surrendered the dogs to Animal Control in the interest of public safety. This case is being forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The Winnemucca Police Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to the owners of the horse. We would also like to thank the public for speaking up and getting involved. This is a tragic loss but thanks to people speaking up and cooperating, there is no further danger to our community.
