69 years ago – In 1954, the Arsenal Elementary School in Pittsburgh received the first injections of the polio vaccine developed by Dr. Jonas Salk.

45 years ago – In 1978, there was a TIE for Song of the Year at the 20th Grammy Awards.  For some reason, they couldn’t choose between Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life” and Barbra Streisand’s “Evergreen”, which was the love theme to the 1977 version of “A Star Is Born”.

40 years ago – In 1983, Men at Work won the Best New Artist award and Richard Pryor won Best Comedy Recording at the 25th Grammy Awards.

The Willie Nelson hit Always on My Mind won Song of the Year and Toto won Album of the Year and Record of the Year on the strength of Rosanna.

29 years ago – In 1994, Nancy Kerrigan came home with a silver medal from the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.  Tonya Harding placed tenth.

24 years ago – In 1999, TLC released their third album “FanMail”, featuring their hits No Scrubs and Unpretty.

23 years ago – In 2000, Christina Aguilera won Best New Artist at the 42nd Grammy Awards.  Santana won Album of the Year for “Supernatural”.

20 years ago – In 2003, Norah Jones won Best New Artist at the 45th Grammy Awards, and four other awards including Album of the Year for “Come Away with Me” and Song of the Year for Don’t Know Why.

17 years ago – In 2006, the One Billionth Legally Downloaded Song was purchased on iTunes.  That song?  Speed of Sound from Coldplay’s 2005 album, “X & Y”.

10 years ago – In 2013, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2” won Worst Picture at the Razzie Awards and Rihanna won Worst Supporting Actress.  That year’s Worst Actress was Kristen Stewart for “Snow White and the Huntsman” and the final “Twilight” movie.
